Alright, so I kept seeing stuff pop up about this new game, Marvel Rivals. Looked pretty flashy, you know, team-based shooter with Marvel characters. My kind of thing, usually. So the first thing that popped into my head was, naturally, can I even play this thing?
My trusty old PS4 is still chugging along, see. It’s where I do most of my gaming. So, I figured I’d check. Didn’t even bother searching online first, just went straight to the source.
Fired up the PS4, heard the familiar hum. Navigated over to the PlayStation Store. Took a minute to load, as it does sometimes. Went up to the search bar, typed in ‘M-A-R-V-E-L R-I-V-A-L-S’. Hit enter.
And… nothing. Zip. Nada. Just showed me other Marvel games, Avengers, Spider-Man, stuff I already knew about. Okay, maybe it’s just not listed yet, I thought. Sometimes games show up later.
So, next step, pulled out my phone. Had to do the web search thing. Opened up my browser and just typed in something simple like ‘marvel rivals ps4 release’ or ‘what platforms marvel rivals’. You know, the usual stuff.
Got a bunch of results back pretty quick. News articles from gaming sites, some forum discussions. I clicked on a few that looked like they knew what they were talking about, maybe an official announcement summary or something.
What I Found Out
Turns out, the game has been announced for consoles, which got my hopes up for a second. But digging into the details, here’s what everyone was saying:
- It’s definitely coming to PC.
- It’s also confirmed for PlayStation 5.
- And it’s coming to the Xbox Series X and S.
Notice what’s missing? Yeah, no mention of the PS4 anywhere in the official announcements I could find. All the articles pointed towards it being a current-gen console and PC release only, at least for now.
So, the short answer to my own question was a ‘nope’. A bit of a downer, honestly. Looks like my PS4 might be starting to miss out on some of the newer, fancier titles. It makes sense, I guess. These games probably need the extra horsepower the newer machines have. Still, would’ve been nice. For now, looks like I’ll just have to watch videos of it, unless they surprise us later, but I’m not holding my breath.
