Alright, let’s talk about Eyes of Tomorrow. Man, getting that thing… felt like ages ago now, running Deep Stone Crypt over and over.

Getting the Drop
I remember grinding that raid, week after week. Every Tuesday reset, same routine. Get the fireteam together, clear the encounters, hope Taniks dropped that fancy rocket launcher. Most weeks? Nothing. Just spoils and armor I didn’t really need. It got frustrating, you know? Seeing clanmates get it on their first or second run while I was sitting there empty-handed after like, twenty clears. But finally, one night, after beating the final boss, bam! There it was. That exotic yellow engram popped up. Felt pretty damn good, not gonna lie. A real sense of relief after all that effort.
First Impressions and Testing
So, first thing I did? Took it straight out for a spin. Went into some playlist strikes, maybe wandered around Europa shooting Fallen. The multi-lock targetting was wild. Just aim down sights, sweep across a bunch of enemies, pull the trigger, and watch the fireworks. Woosh, woosh, woosh, boom! Everything just disappears. For clearing out big groups of red bars and orange bars? Fantastic. Absolutely melted them.
- It felt super satisfying just wiping entire waves.
- The tracking seemed really aggressive, the rockets found their marks.
- Sound design was cool too, very distinct.
The Reality Check – Boss Damage and Specific Uses
But then I started using it in tougher stuff. Nightfalls, maybe some boss encounters. And that’s where it felt… less amazing. The whole point is hitting multiple targets, right? So when you’re focusing fire on one big boss, only one or two rockets actually hit the main target if there aren’t adds nearby. The damage just wasn’t comparing to some other heavy hitters, like a good legendary rocket or, later on, things like Gjallarhorn or even some linear fusions.
Where it did shine, surprisingly, was Gambit. Oh man, invading with Eyes of Tomorrow back in its heyday? That was something else. You could lock onto the whole enemy team pretty quick, fire off a volley, and often snag three or four kills before they even knew what hit ’em. Felt kinda dirty, but hey, it worked. They nerfed its effectiveness against Guardians specifically because of that, which was probably fair.
So, Is It Good Now?
Things change, weapons get buffed, nerfed, metas shift. Eyes got adjusted a few times. It lost some of its punch against bosses early on compared to its initial potential, then got a damage buff later against bosses specifically if you tagged multiple targets first which… is situational.
So, going back to the original thought: is Eyes of Tomorrow good?
My take, after all this time using it on and off? Yeah, it’s good, but it’s not the be-all, end-all heavy weapon. It’s a specialized tool.
- For add clear on a massive scale? Top tier, absolutely melts crowds.
- For single-target boss damage? Meh, usually better options exist. You need adds around the boss for it to really ramp up, and that’s not always the case.
- For Gambit invades? Still pretty decent, even after the nerfs, just not the instant team-wipe machine it once was.
- Is it fun? Heck yeah, it’s fun. Watching those volleys fly out is always satisfying.
I keep it in my vault. I pull it out sometimes for specific activities or just for funsies when I want to clear rooms quickly. It’s not my go-to for serious boss burns, but it definitely has its place. It was worth the grind, even if it’s not always equipped. It’s a cool piece of gear with a very specific job, and it does that job really well.
