Okay, so, I saw this idea online about making basketball pencils and thought, “Why not?” I’m always up for a little DIY project. So, I decided to give it a shot and document the whole thing.
Gathering Supplies
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some supplies. I already had a bunch of regular pencils lying around. Then, I grabbed some orange and black paint. I found them in my craft box. I also picked up a fine-tipped brush from my toolbox. It’s the kind you use for tiny details.
Painting the Pencils Orange
I started by painting the pencils. I laid down some old newspaper on my table to keep things clean. I poured a bit of orange paint onto a small plate and got to work. I dipped the brush and carefully coated each pencil, trying to get an even layer. It took a few coats to get a nice, solid orange color. I made sure to let them dry completely between coats.
Drawing the Black Lines
Once the orange paint was totally dry, it was time for the black lines. This was the tricky part. I took my fine-tipped brush and dipped it in black paint. I had to be really careful here. I started by drawing a thin line around the pencil, near the eraser. Then I drew a line down the length of the pencil. I added a couple more lines going around to make it look like a basketball. It took a steady hand, but I think I did okay.
Letting Them Dry
After I finished with the black lines, I set the pencils aside to dry. It took a few hours for them to dry completely. I made sure not to touch them, so the paint wouldn’t smudge.
Final Touches
Once everything was dry, I checked out my work. I noticed a couple of spots where the paint was a bit uneven. I touched those up with a bit more orange or black paint.
Admiring the Finished Product
Finally, my basketball pencils were done! They turned out pretty cool, if I do say so myself. They’re not perfect, but I like that they have a handmade look. I’m planning to use them for my journal. It’s always fun to add a personal touch to everyday things.
