Alright, let’s talk about getting Paolo Maldini in my EA FC 24 club. It wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, let me tell ya.
So, I’ve been playing Ultimate Team for ages, right? And Maldini, he’s always been one of those legends you dream of having. Just a rock at the back. When FC 24 came out, I knew getting his Icon card was a big goal for me. Seeing that card art just brings back memories.
The Grind Begins
First off, I knew he wouldn’t be cheap. Like, ever. Icons, especially top-tier ones like Maldini, cost a fortune. My first thought was, maybe I’ll get lucky with packs? Hah! Yeah, right. Opened my fair share of packs from rewards, objectives, even bought a few with coins early on when I probably shouldn’t have. Got absolutely nothing close. Standard stuff, really.
So, plan B: the market. This meant saving up. A lot. I started playing more Rivals, sweating through Champs qualifiers and Finals, doing every objective that gave out decent coin rewards or tradeable packs. It was slow going.
- Sold pretty much any valuable player I packed.
- Learned some basic trading – nothing fancy, just buying low on certain players and selling a bit higher.
- Avoided buying packs with coins completely. Had to be disciplined!
- Scraped through Squad Battles sometimes just for the coins.
Every day, I’d check Maldini’s price. Just watching it fluctuate. Sometimes it dipped a little, getting my hopes up, then it’d shoot right back up. It felt like chasing a moving target.
Finally Getting Him
Took me weeks, maybe longer than I’d like to admit. Sold a couple of decent promo players I had packed along the way. Finally, I had enough coins banked. It was a big chunk of my club’s value, sitting there.
Went onto the transfer market. Searched “Maldini”. Filtered by Icon versions. My heart was kinda pounding, you know? Found one for the price I could just about afford. Hesitated for a second – it’s a lot of coins! But then I just hit “Buy Now”. Done. The coins vanished, but Maldini was in my club.
Felt pretty good, actually. Like I’d really earned it.
Using Maldini In-Game
Immediately slotted him into my defense. Paired him up with whoever my best center-back was at the time. First few games? Wow. You can just feel the difference.
His positioning is nuts. He’s just always in the right place. Tackles are so clean, especially those standing tackles. He rarely misses. Intercepts passes like crazy too, just cuts out attacks before they even start properly. Even his pace felt good enough, especially with the right chem style.
He just makes defending feel… calmer. Less panic. Knowing Maldini is back there cleaning things up gives you confidence. He’s won me games, no doubt about it, just by stopping certain goals that probably would have gone in with a lesser defender.
So yeah, that’s my journey getting Maldini in FC 24. Long grind, big cost, but man, having him anchoring my defense? Totally worth it for me. He’s not leaving my team anytime soon.
