Okay, so today I wanna share my experience about “flex player in fantasy football”. You know, I’ve been playing fantasy football for a few years now, and figuring out the flex position has always been a bit of a puzzle.

Getting Started
At first, I just threw whoever I had left over into the flex spot. Didn’t really think much about it. I was like, “Eh, I’ve got my starting running backs and wide receivers, so whoever else is on my bench can go in the flex.” Big mistake, huge!
The Experiment
Then, I started to experiment. I started paying more attention to matchups. I looked at things like which defenses were weak against the run, which ones were giving up a lot of passing yards, and so on.
I began by listing all my eligible players, you know, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends that weren’t already in my starting lineup. I’d write down their projected points, but honestly, those projections are often way off. So, I relied on my gut, what I learned from my searching.
Diving into Matchups
Next, I looked at the opposing defenses. I tried to find favorable matchups. If my flex running back, for instance, was facing a team that was terrible at stopping the run, that was a good sign. Or if my wide receiver was up against a weak secondary, that would push me to pick him.
Considering Game Script
I also started to think about the “game script.” This means, how do I think the game is gonna go? If I think a team is gonna be winning big, they’re probably gonna run the ball more to kill the clock. So, a running back in that situation might get more carries. If a team is gonna be playing from behind, they’ll probably be throwing the ball more, which could benefit a receiver or a pass-catching tight end.
The Tight End Factor
Don’t sleep on tight ends in the flex! Seriously, sometimes a tight end can be a sneaky good play. If you have a tight end who’s a big part of his team’s passing game, he can put up some serious points. I remember one time, I played my TE in the flex and he had 2 Touchdowns, which helped me get a win!
My Results
- Better Decisions: By paying attention to matchups and game script, my flex plays started to be much more solid.
- More Wins: More consistently good flex plays turned into more wins. And more wins, mean more enjoyment!
- Still Learning: It’s an ongoing process. Every week is different, and there’s always something new to learn.
So, that’s my journey with the flex position. It took some trial and error, and I’m still figuring things out, but I’m definitely making better decisions now than I used to. Hope my experience can help some of you too. Good luck!
