Initial Ideas Popping Up:
- Puns on Goff, obviously.
- Something with Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Sun God.
- Hutchinson references, maybe something about sacks.
- Dan Campbell inspired stuff – kneecaps, grit, etc.
Honestly, the low-hanging fruit gets picked fast. Everyone’s probably thought of “Goff With Their Heads” or something similar.
Digging Deeper
So, basic wasn’t cutting it. I started just searching around online, seeing what other people were kicking about. Typed in the usual stuff, “Detroit Lions fantasy football names,” “funny Lions team names,” that kind of thing. You get pages and pages of lists.
Man, sorting through those lists is a job in itself. Some are decent, some are clearly scraped from other sites from five years ago, and some are just plain bad. Like, really reaching. You see the same ones over and over again too.
What I Found Mostly:
- Endless Goff puns (some okay, many terrible).
- Variations on “Pride” or “Roar”.
- Plays on old player names sometimes, which feels a bit dated.
- Attempts at incorporating “Motor City” or “Detroit”.
I wasn’t really finding anything that clicked, you know? Something that felt mine and also captured the current team’s vibe. This team feels different now, more energy, more fight.
Trying Combinations
I started just mixing and matching words myself. Thinking about specific players and team slogans.
Tried stuff like:
- St. Brown’s Sermon
- Hutchinson’s Havoc
- Motor City Maulers
- Campbell’s Crusaders
- Honolulu Blue Bombers
Some felt okay, others a bit clunky. “Sun God Ascending”? Maybe too dramatic. “Goffense Is Rolling”? A bit plain.
Settling (Almost)
After messing around for a while, I jotted down a few possibilities that didn’t make me cringe immediately. Things like “Kneecap Chew Crew” or “Sun God Saints” or even just a simple “Detroit Grit”. Still kind of debating it. You want something you’ll be happy seeing all season long, right?
It’s actually a fun little ritual, this whole naming thing. Gets you thinking about the team, the players, gets the juices flowing for the season. Didn’t land on the perfect one instantly, but that’s the process. You throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks. I’ll probably pick one the morning of the draft, last minute decision like always. Anyway, that’s how I went about trying to find my Lions name this year.
