Alright, let me tell you about this one time I was really hyped for a Dodgers vs. Phillies game. It wasn’t just any game, you know? It felt like one of those matchups that had some real heat behind it.

So, I cleared my schedule. Told my buddies I couldn’t hang out. Got the snacks ready – the whole nine yards. I settled onto my couch, maybe an hour before the first pitch, just soaking in the pre-game chatter on TV. Everything was set for a solid evening of baseball.
Then Things Went Sideways
Just as things were getting interesting, maybe top of the second inning, the sky outside decided to open up. I mean, it wasn’t just rain; it was one of those crazy summer storms. Wind howling, rain hammering against the windows. And then, boom. Pitch black. The power went out.
You gotta be kidding me, right? Of all the times! My first thought was my phone. Pulled it out, hoping to catch a stream or at least the score updates. Signal was terrible, barely one bar. The storm must’ve been messing with the cell towers too. Classic.
Okay, plan B. I remembered I had this old battery-powered radio somewhere. Spent a good ten minutes rummaging through drawers in the dark, using my phone’s dying flashlight. Found it! Twisted the dial, trying to find a station carrying the game. Static. More static. Found some music, some talk shows, but no baseball. And guess what? The batteries died after about five minutes anyway. Perfect.
Making the Best of It
So there I was. Sitting in the dark, storm raging outside, completely cut off from the Dodgers-Phillies showdown. It was actually kinda funny in a frustrating way. I couldn’t help but laugh.
What I ended up doing:
- Just sat there listening to the storm for a bit.
- Ate some of those snacks I’d laid out for the game. They tasted okay in the dark, I guess.
- Tried to imagine what was happening in the game based on when the power went out. Probably got it all wrong.
After maybe an hour, just as suddenly as it went out, the power flickered back on. Lights blazed, TV screen lit up. I scrambled for the remote. Managed to catch the last couple of innings. Missed a lot of the action, obviously, but seeing the end was better than nothing.
It wasn’t the game night I planned, that’s for sure. But hey, it’s a story, right? Sometimes just trying to watch the game becomes more memorable than the game itself. You just roll with it. That’s baseball, that’s life, I suppose. Ended up checking the highlights later to see what I actually missed. Still felt kinda disconnected, though, after that whole ordeal. But yeah, that was my Dodgers vs. Phillies experience for that particular day.
