Well, let me tell you, this here talkin’ ’bout them Yankee announcers today on YES is somethin’ else. I heard folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the general store the other day. Seems like everyone’s got an opinion on who’s callin’ the games these days. I remember the good old days when you could listen on the radio and know every voice. Now it gets all mixed up.
That YES Network, they show all them Yankees games. Used to be you could only catch ’em on the radio, or maybe if you had one of them fancy satellite dishes. But now, everyone’s watchin’ on that YES. I tell ya, them’s fancy times. The New York Yankees, they’re a big deal. Always have been. Like 27 times they won the World Champion, or somethin’ like that. A whole heap of wins, that’s for sure.
They got this fella, what’s his name now… Michael Kay. Yeah, that’s it. He’s been doin’ it a long time, callin’ them games. Heard he won some awards, too. Fancy ones, like them Emmys, or somethin’ like that. He’s on that CenterStage show, too. I seen it once or twice, when I was visitin’ my niece. She’s got cable. Always somethin’ interestin’ on there, I’ll give him that. It’s all about them Yankee announcers today on YES.
Then there’s this other fella, Dave Sims. He’s gonna be callin’ the games on the radio now. He says he’s happy to be back. I guess he did it before, but I don’t rightly recall. He also gonna work with his friend Suzyn, and they did it together before, like a hundred years ago, or somethin’ like that. That YES sure is busy with all these Yankee announcers today.
Heard someone say he used to work for the Yankees, way back when. Says it’s like comin’ home. Well, good for him, I reckon. It’s always nice to come home. He also said it is an honor to be part of that Yankees thing. The Yankees is like a big thing, you know? Everybody knows ’em. He’s all excited ’bout Opening Day, too. Everyone gets excited for that. And he is gonna work with this lady, Suzyn Waldman, I think her name is. I don’t know her much.
They used to work together, a long time ago. Like, back in the old days, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, or somethin’. Well, maybe not that long ago. But you get the idea. It was a while back. So, they’ll probably get along just fine. It is always somethin’ about them Yankee announcers today on YES.
And they got this other guy, John Sterling. Now, he’s the one I remember. He’s been doin’ it for ages. They call him the “voice of the Yankees,” which I guess means he talks a lot. Always got somethin’ to say, that one. You can’t miss him. He is so loud. When he shouts you can hear it a mile away.
- Heard they got a new fella joinin’ the team, too. Nick Swisher. Used to play for the Yankees, I think. Now he’s gonna be talkin’ about ’em instead of playin’. Funny how things work out.
- They’re sayin’ he’s makin’ his “debut” as a broadcaster. Guess that means it’s his first time doin’ it. Hope he does alright.
- This YES Network, they show all sorts of stuff ’bout the Yankees. Games, highlights, numbers, who’s playin’, who ain’t. You name it, they got it. Even got shows before the game and after the game. Yankees Pregame and Yankees Postgame, they call ’em. It’s just one thing or another.
Used to be simpler, I tell ya. You turned on the radio, you listened to the game, and that was that. Now, it’s all complicated. TV, radio, internet. Heck, I even heard you can watch it on your phone now. Imagine that. Watchin’ a baseball game on that little bitty screen. I need my glasses to see what time it is, let alone a baseball. They just keep addin’ more and more Yankee announcers today on YES.
But I guess that’s progress for ya. Always movin’ forward, even if you don’t know where you’re goin’. Just gotta keep up, I suppose. Or at least try to. It’s a lot to remember, all these names and faces. But I reckon it’s good to have choices. Even if it makes my head spin sometimes. They got more than just the Yankees on that there YES Network, too. Got them Brooklyn Nets, and some team called the New York Liberty. I don’t know much ’bout them, though. Basketball, I think. Ain’t my cup of tea. But they got it all on there, if you’re interested. I am more into baseball, you know. I guess it is just my thing.
